A discovery platform for Australian specialty coffee.
Cophi (Φ Coffee) helps people find specialty coffee that suits their taste, their brewing method and their budget — and helps independent roasters be found by the people already looking for what they make.
Who Cophi is for
Cophi is for anyone who has stood in front of a wall of specialty bags and had no idea which one suits their grinder, their machine or their palate. It is equally for people new to filter coffee and for people who already know they want a washed Kenyan for a V60.
It is also for the roasters. Small Australian roasteries compete for attention against national brands with far larger marketing budgets. A directory that describes coffees by their actual characteristics — process, altitude, roast level, brewing method, flavour — puts a twelve-kilogram roastery in front of exactly the person looking for what came off its drum this week.
Australia first
Cophi launches with a single market: Australia. Prices are in Australian dollars, shipping regions are Australian states and territories, and every roaster listed roasts here. Starting narrow keeps the data honest — a domestic roast date and a domestic shipping window mean something concrete.
How Cophi helps you find coffee
Two entry points lead to the same engine. The Quick Finder collects structured preferences in about a minute. Ask Φ takes the same information from a sentence in your own words. Both then apply eligibility filters, score the remaining coffees for compatibility, rank them and explain each result. The full process is written up on the methodology page.
Demo records and verified records
Everything currently in the coffee catalogue and the roaster directory is fictional demo data, created to build and test the product. Demo records are labelled as such, are excluded from search-engine indexing, and never link out to a real business.
Before launch, those fixtures are replaced with verified records: a real roaster, a real product page, a checked price and bag size, and a timestamp recording when each was last confirmed. Only then does a listing become indexable and only then does an outbound link become active.
Cophi does not sell coffee
There is no cart, no checkout and no Cophi order. When a verified listing is ready, the buy action takes you to the roaster's own website, where the roaster sets the price, the shipping and the terms. If a link is ever a disclosed affiliate link, it will say so on the page.
What this prototype cannot do yet
- All coffee, roaster and Journal records are fictional demo data.
- Nothing is saved between sessions — there are no accounts and no favourites.
- Taste DNA is a preview of the current session, not a stored profile.
- Outbound roaster and product links are disabled.
- Recommendations run on a deterministic rule set, not machine learning.
Our principles
Transparency
Every match arrives with the reasons behind it. Nothing is ranked by payment, and no placement on Cophi is for sale.
Relevance
A shorter list of coffees that genuinely fit how you brew is more useful than a longer list that does not.
Data accuracy
Prices, bag sizes and availability belong to the roaster. Cophi records when each detail was last checked, and shows demo records as demo records.
Trust
No invented statistics, no fabricated reviews, no outbound link to a real business we have not verified.
